Elect MATT GAIDOS

Experienced Leadership, Practical Solutions for Sustainable Pleasanton Growth

I am a lifelong Pleasanton native resident and a Career public servant. I have watched this city grow and change; for the last 16 years while professionally serving in Alameda County and Pleasanton, I have seen the challenges our community faces.

We need practical solutions that meet our community’s ever-changing needs while still preserving its character. I know what kind of city I want my family and neighbors to experience and I want to help shape a sustainable future for Pleasanton.

Hired as a Deputy District Attorney by then D.A. Tom Orloff (another Pleasanton local), Matt Gaidos has spent 16 years prosecuting and trying serious and violent cases.

He spent five years on the housing commission for the City of Pleasanton and is the current chairperson of the Planning Commission for the City of Pleasanton.

Matt has four school aged children in the local public schools and has sat on various charitable boards. Gaidos is also a POST certified Law Enforcement De-Escalation instructor.

What We Do for our Community

we-do-for-community
Ensure public safety and continuity of interagency communication

As a seasoned, experienced and current career Alameda County prosecutor, Gaidos has an expert level understanding of what promotes, and detracts from public safety. When people are victims of crimes, including property crimes, it can instill a sense of uneasiness and a lack of security.

  • Once elected, Gaidos will be a bridge to a strengthened connection between the city police and prosecuting agencies.
  • Those that victimize the civilians in our community should be held accountable.
  • Law enforcement should be both transparent and supported by the community.
Measured Development and Retention of Open Hillside Space

With the pressure from the state government to create thousands of units of housing (and thousands more in the next decade) it is imperative that the community’s voice and collective wants be heard and executed.

  • On the planning commission, Gaidos was heavily involved in that planning process.
  • A continuing priority is the protection of our foothills and the serene character of the Pleasanton ridge.
Water, Budget, and the Future
  • The current council and local water board has done a commendable job dealing with and planning the future of Pleasanton’s water supply and mitigating against Pfas. However, this is an issue that may rear its head in the future as two new wells are planned. This work will be paramount in the coming years and will be a priority for Gaidos and the rest of the council.
  • Another moving target is the city Budget. While there are economical factors largely outside of the city’s control, it is important to protect the financial infrastructure of the city by taking a hard look at expenditures and programs. With 16+ years in a professional governmental role, Gaidos has seen firsthand what the prioritizing, or lack thereof has resulted in. Taking a fiscally conservative approach is a core belief of Gaidos.
  • The future…growth, inflation, and being the subject of the “one size fits all’s cities” approach from the State is certainly a challenge. New laws passed by the state and their philosophical and empirical assumptions need to be scrutinized and if necessary, challenged. Gaidos has experience seeing how these recent changes have impacted the criminal justice system, and other important issues that Pleasanton residents care about. Putting those who have an intimate understanding and those who are experienced and have a pragmatic approach in leadership positions is best for the city and its residents.
Housing

Pleasanton has primarily seen development of houses which no one but the most wealthy earners in the bay area economy can afford. While it is beneficial to the city and its residents to attract those with more means, we have, at the same time missed many opportunities to create housing that our local teachers, city and county workers, and other middle income folks can afford.

  • Our city needs to prioritize housing for Pleasanton residents and their families who are being priced out.
  • Gaidos will prioritize housing (both senior and family) for those who have contributed and have given back to our community.
  • Gaidos has prioritized this during his time on both the housing commission and planning commission.
  • That work needs to continue to ensure generational future for residents and their families and to secure and retain important community employees.
